Food for thought

Most people are omnivores, eating plants and animals (i.e. vegetables and meat) Doesn't anyone find it rather cruel to be eating them? At least for eating animal that is.

When watching animal planet, you turn your head away in disgust, not wanting to watch the cheetah tear the deer apart, savouring the meat, with blood all over its mouth. "Ouch!" you exclaimee, feeling the pain for the deer. "Poor thing" you commented, sympathising the deer. But aren't we all guilty of the same thing?

You gush at the cute little pig plush toy not because you like pigs. You hold the little chick in your hand, stroking it, not because you like chickens. You feed grass to the goats and cows at the zoo not because you like them. Go ahead and violently object. If you love them, would you eat them? Would you eat your spouse as well if he or she was the only meat left? Surely not? We're humans, not spiders or praying mantis.

Animals are reared, gorged with food, so much so that they're too full to move, in the hope that they'll grow bigger, fetching more money at the market. Since birth, they are sentenced with a death sentence. There is no way they can escape. Imagine being led by a leash and you know where you're headed -- the abattoir. Yikes! At least animals in the wild have a chance of survival even though they're hunted.

As for plants, they do not move and we do not communicate with them. Imagine if they were able to move, do you think they will stay rooted to the ground (literally) of run for their dear life when faced with danger? I believe the latter is the rational choice.

Think it over.

Comments are welcomed.

What's with the address?

This entry is to address concerns on "why this address" as in why "mycandyhouse.blogspot". Whether you've asked me straight in the face, or you thought aloud or deep inside you there's this tiny voice asking, it doesn't matter because we're about to uncover the mystery in a few seconds.

As most of you should know, my email addy contains my name. I think that is so dull and boring so I did not need this address to be "eesuan.blogspot". It was on the spur of the moment that I started an account so I did not think before-hand what name i wanted. I thought a big "cheem" word would be sophisticated but at that moment I was too tired and the only words I could think of were "bushed", "melancholy", "exhausted" and maybe "tired". None of which were exactly sophisticated.

"princess whatever" seems rather sweet but I don't want to come across as arrogant, thinking too highly of myself see. At this point, being somewhat dreamy, I started to think of fairy tales and children's classics. If you don't already know what I'm driving at, think along this line...

Once upon a time, there was a very poor couple with two children, a boy and a girl. The couple felt that they could not provide for them, thus intending to leave them in the woods hoping that they would be found by some others and be provided for. The next day, after being left in the woods, they wandered around till they found this house made of candy. Uh-huh! candy house!!

"SO?" you must be wondering. What is with this story? If you don't already know, this story is Hansel and Gretel. Man, you must have had a sad and deprived childhood to not know this.

"So what's the link? why this story" My better half happens to be named Hansel. "Oh!" now you know.

Anyway, if you haven't heard of this story, don't be shy, come to me, I'd gladly narrate it to you.

Guys

Guys are hard to please. The problems with them:
  • If you treat him nicely, he says you are in love with him; If you don't, he says you are proud.
  • If you dress nicely, he says you are trying to seduce him; If you don't, he says you are from kampung.
  • If you argue with him, he says you are stubborn; If you keep quiet, he says u have no brains.
  • If you are smarter than him, he'll lose face; If he's smarter than you, he is great.
  • If you don't love him, he tries to possess u; If you love him, he will try to leave you.
  • If you don't make love to him, he says you don't love him; If you do, he says you are cheap and wonders how many guys have bedded you already.
  • If you tell him your problem, he says you are troublesome; If you don't, he says that you don't trust him.
  • If you scold him, you are like his mum; If he scolds you, it is because he cares for you.
  • If you break your promise, you cannot be trusted; If he breaks his, he is forced to do so.
  • If you do well in your exams, he says it's luck; If he does well, it's brains.
  • If you hurt him, you are cruel; If he hurts you, you are oversensitive.

Oh well, what can i say? Guys--love them, hate them.
